The Nanny Chronicles of Hollywood eBook Julie Swales Stella Reld Reviews

  • This was a boring book . Nothing but the same things said over and over in slightly different ways. There wasn't much in the way of making this book even enjoyable by dropping some celebrity names. I do believe that the description of this book said it mention celebrities, (Names) and it really didn't. Not with any substance. It just continued to jump around.
This book might bode well for a very young person who is considering entering the life of a Nanny or Manny. I must say it sounds like this kind of work has a person compromise their whole life. In fact it sounds like a form of slavery. I am a huge reader and thought this might be a quick read and different from what I normally read. What I had to do to finish this book and not waste my money,( Which I value) was to see how fast I could get through it. A ridiculous waste of time. As I did stated if you are just out of high school and are in search of a vocation maybe this book is for you. I just cannot recommend this at all.
  • Having worked as a Hollywood for many years for the more down to earth A-listers, I have always been inquisitive to hear from an agency who listens to the complaints from nannies and families. Julie and Stella are certainly the right girls to write this book. It is a fast, page turner which not only gives true insight into the nannies frustrations but also tries to help problem solve. However, by the end of the book Julie rightly suggests the nannies need to have this high paid experience, SAVE their money and try to not get too emotionally attached to the children or the glamorous lifestyle. A balance which is difficult to achieve in a healthy manner. Both Stella and Julie have written and explained the true scenarios and how to come out reasonably sane. Looking forward to Julie's next book on the parents perspective. However, as I have always said a nanny's primary purpose should always be the well being of the child. My concerns are that the children are the only victims in this too often unhealthy triangulation. More needs to be addressed about the professional need for the care of these children.
  • The only job crazier than an acting one is working for the actors. I've been a nanny/cook in Hollywood for 10 plus years now and would not trade it for the world! It does come with its ups and downs unlike any other career out there. Julie and Stella have nailed it on the head. I can't put this book down and I'm not a reader! What a fun, informative ride. I recommend it to any nanny, mom, agent, estate manager or tom dick and harry out there !

  • Love Nanny Stella-(still fondly recall her on Nanny 911- where she opened the door to see a few unruly children and said.."I'm in Nanny Hell" ;-D so based upon what I knew of her from the show I thought the book would be stellar. As a nanny of over 15 years- I know quite a bit of what goes on in the nanny world, but the books came off as whiny...therefore giving a bad view of the nanny profession and those who work in it. The book starts off well but falls apart soon after. Only good part is that some of the proceeds goes to charity. Overall Disappointing Read...
  • Not a chronicle at all but a fragmented boring essay. I want my $4 back. Waste of my time. Don't bother.
  • You'll be shocked and amazed at the lives of these Hollywood nannies. These writers have a birds-eye view into the world of the rich and famous like no one else. Nothing has been this good since The Nanny Diaries! A must read!
  • Very fast delivery. The book is in very good condition and it's a good, informative read.
  • The Nanny Chronicles of Hollywood Book by Julia Swales and Stella Reid is a book containing information such as the mention that people who vie to be nannies in Hollywood must undergo some unconventional means to sometime get the job. For instance, there is information included that an employer’s psychic may sometimes act as one of the people who influences the outcome of a nanny to be getting a job. Additionally, there is information suggested that sometimes the employers of nannies in Hollywood will not necessarily write off someone who has children when it comes to hiring a nanny, but they would want to know that this would not interfere with the prospective employee being there for their children. Employees without children are not necessarily in the clear either. There is information to imply that there are employers of nannies who would want an employee without children to not get too attached to their children andor cause the children to favor them over the parents. As a writer, I am glad to have came across this book especially as a way to help me understand a way of life different from my own background. I admit that my late adoptive mother tried to install a love of having children and caring for children by having me build my life around my younger siblings and whichever children that she took in from the time I was 10 years old until I was 18 years old. She even treated me as her own biological daughter even though it was clear to others in her family racially that I was adopted (my late adoptive mother was a Caucasian woman with Cherokee Indian and French ancestry). I have nothing against parents or children but the love of having children and being a mother that my adoptive mother tried to instill in me had just never passed down to me despite her best efforts to do so.
