Fool Me Once First Wives Book 1 eBook Catherine Bybee Reviews
- By now, you all know that I love Catherine Bybee and for me, every single book of hers is simply a masterpiece. Well, that's more than true for Fool Me Once. It is intriguing, fun, suspenseful, romantic and of course hot. With every single page, I was more and more captivated by the characters and their story. I loved the secrets that were revealed one by one and the connection with the Weekday Brides series was just awesome. It was great seeing the other side of the coin, the marriages that stayed purely business.
But Lori, is not one of the Alliance brides. She is the layer that makes sure the Alliance clients are not taken advantage of, the one who helps them get on their feet after their divorces. Because of her career and her personal experience, she is quite jaded and for her love and marriage are too high of a risk that quite often end up with a high price tag. But you know what they say about best laid plans and all that D Everything for her changes when she meets Reed. She does try to resist but in the end everything is futile to his charm and persistence.
The relationship between Lori and Reed is passionate and hot, but unfortunately not everything is what it looks like. And there are secrets that can destroy everything they build together. But with danger lurking around the corner and meddling friends who think that second chance are worth giving every now and then, Lori and Reed find their second chance at love, a second chance of a relationship that could heal the wounds from the past.
I won't reveal anything else but keep in mind that the book is a must read. There suspense, love, secrets, chemistry and everything else that will make you crave more ) So don't waste any time and pick yourself a copy ) As for me, I can't wait for the next book in the series. I can't decide which character's story I want the most. It might be Shannon because she is the one who is the most closed off I think. In any case, I will be happy D
This review was originally posted at Living In Our Own Story Book Blog. I received an ARC of the book in exchange of an honest review. - This is not merely a romance novel. Of course! there is romance and some hot sexy interludes, but what amazed/impressed me, was the plot. (And a considerably large list of characters, to keep track of. Each and every one, individual and believable.)
It's intrigue, thriller (and quite dark in some places), all rolled into one. And the story line is equal, if not better, than some totally dedicated books I've read, in genres such as, courtroom procedure, murder mystery etc etc.
I felt a huge amount of envy (being an aspiring author myself) because this is one very talented author.
The story flows, the people so lifelike, the dialogue, excellent. And, well... I could just rave on about it some more, or I could simply tell you to read it.
It is fabulous. - CAUTION - SPOILER ALERT!!!!
Catherine Bybee has done it again. She has brought a hero and heroine together in the same story.Â
I was fortunate enough to win a signed ARC and once I had time to open the book it didn't take long to finish it. It reads smoothly and holds your interest from start to finish.Â
A spinoff of The Weekday Bride Series The First Wives Series is sure to be a hit if this first book has any indication.Â
Lori, the Alliance attorney brings 3 female Alliance clients together after 2 have divorced and one becomes a widow. In her attempt to help the 3 women start living after their Alliance marriages end, Lori is the one to find love with a fellow cruise passenger. Enter Reed. he is charming and seems down to earth. Too bad you feel he is too good to be true and he almost is. Reed is an ex-cop turned PI and is hired by an unknown party to spy on the women during their cruise, so of course his chance meeting with Lori is not by chance at all. Don't get mad though ladies, Reed redeems himself later... and that's all I will say about that.Â
Catherine does a wonderful job bringing so many characters to life in one story and her ability to utilize previous characters to keep them all alive even after their stories have ended is awesome.Â
This was one book I pre-ordered just because of the author and I never actually read what it was about. After winning the ARC and getting half way through the book, I went back and read the description ).
I feel very fortunate to have found these books and absolutely cannot wait for the next in the series. - When I originally read this novel I hadn’t read through the Weekday Brides series. Since then I have read them all and now I am re-reading this story as I have grown more acquainted with the original characters. During the Weekday Brides series, we see the couples enter into matrimony through unusual circumstances and sometimes even life-threatening. We meet Sam in the first novel and learn how Alliance is brought to life. Lori Cumberland is briefly mentioned at least once during the final installment of Weekday Brides series.
I find it helpful to read the original series first. I enjoy the First Wives novels more as a result. Now readers take a journey of what some of these arranged marriages look like after the divorce. The first novel begins with the divorce party, which is mentioned during the original series but we never actually see what it looks like. I enjoyed that scene more the second time around and it was fun meeting some of the characters of these arrangements. I look forward to seeing how this series unfolds. Of courses Bybee takes her characters for a suspenseful ride, which I always enjoy. - I thought this was an unfortunate premise....and a waste of time. Could not get past first 50 pages. Has our society become this shallow?
